6 Small but Productive Things to do When You’re Feeling Lazy

If you’ve been bored out of your mind and being lazy as humanly possible, DON’T WORRY! It happens… especially during “summer break”. These past two weeks, I’ve been so off my usual daily routine, and instead adopted a new schedule that consists of watching a lot more YouTube and Netflix. While taking it easy and giving yourself a break can be marvelous for your health, there’s a difference between that and continuous laziness. If you’ve been nonstop lazy and bored and unmotivated to do anything of value for at least a week, then it’s time to break out of that shell and start transitioning into a more productive lifestyle. I know that the mere thought of going back to the work mode can be dreadful, which is why I recommend trying these six small but productive things when you’re feeling lazy:

1. Stretching/Yoga

Doing a quick stretching and/or yoga routine is a fun way to get your blood flowing and relieve any tension. Just find a spot on the floor and do whatever floats your boat. You can even try to create your own routine or search online for inspiration. Personally, I have a designated stretching routine that I got from my amazing Taekwondo school. I’m so thankful that I was introduced to this specific routine because it really helps with the lower body and hip flexors, which is a common area for tension. If you get bored really easily when doing stretching, then I recommend putting on music that you enjoy listening to.

2. Go for a Stroll

Going outside and taking in fresh air makes you feel more connected to the world and nature itself. If you’ve been sitting home all day and locked up inside the house, you’ll begin to feel as if you’re in a lull. The solution to this is to step into nature and let the fresh air make you feel more present and connected with your surroundings. Being outdoors can possibly lift your mood and alleviate feelings of stress and anxiety.

3. Watch an Educational YouTube Video

Who doesn’t love to watch endless amounts of YouTube videos? I know that going on YouTube is meant to be for fun and entertainment, but it’s also an excellent platform for obtaining knowledge and learning new things. Ask yourself if there’s something you want to learn or know how to do, and once you’ve come up with an answer, simply type that response into the search bar so that your stream will be flooded with different videos that will help you achieve that desired goal. Personally, I love watching lifestyle videos because I enjoy seeing different ways people do stuff and accomplish certain tasks such as cleaning, organizing, etc.

4. Read or Listen to an Audiobook

Reading or listening to an audiobook is such a relaxing activity that happens to benefit your mind. I know that not everyone “likes” to read, which is why audiobooks serve as a wonderful alternative. The reason why reading or listening to an audiobook is something to look into doing is because it allows you to step into another person’s world and know of their thoughts and experiences. Also, reading allows us to take in new information and it can shape our thoughts and feelings to so many different areas of life and our world.

5. Cleaning/Organizing

Take a look around your home and figure out what has to be decluttered and organized. Cleaning/organizing is really important for maintaining balance in your life and it makes you feel more put together. It’s extremely rewarding to have everything in place and situated in a way that’s efficient and good-looking. Some ideas include cleaning your room, vacuuming, organizing computer files, sorting everything that’s in your drawers, etc. I would especially recommend listening to music while doing this because that makes it 100% more fun.

6. Try to Cook or Bake Something New

Experimenting and doing something new is always worth a shot. You can find so many ideas for cooking and baking online and then try to make something for the very first time. Whatever the outcome of your dish or treat, all the fun lies in the process of doing it. I really recommend attempting this because you’ll come out with more experience and new knowledge about the process of making a particular meal or treat.

Sometimes, we fall into a state of wanting to do absolutely nothing, even if it gets boring after a certain time. Remember that taking a break and going easy on yourself is important for your health, but overdoing it can make it harder to live a productive and enjoyable lifestyle. That’s why I suggest doing small things that ultimately make you feel a sense of accomplishment and worthiness when you’re feeling lazy and unmotivated. I hope you try at least one of these and realize that doing small tasks such as this can have an incredible impact on your overall mindset and mood. Lastly, keep in mind that doing even the smallest things is better than doing nothing.
